🌿 A Companion of Dust and Light

Sometimes love finds us in unexpected places, in the eyes of a being who carries both the weight of survival and the light of trust. I was given the honor of sharing days with such a soul, who taught me what it means to belong to each other through unconditional love.

🌿 A Companion of Dust and Light

There are souls who walk beside us quietly, never asking for more than our presence, yet leaving an imprint on our hearts that feels eternal. I once shared time with such a companion β€” one who lived close to the earth, who taught me the language of trust without words.

On warm days, he would roll in the dust, cooling his body in the oldest way nature provides. Seeds and burrs clung to his fur like little travelers, and I would gently free them, one by one, as though untangling threads of the wild itself. He didn’t always want to be held, but he wanted closeness. My dear friend was rubbing against me, stretching near me, letting me know: I see you. I am with you.

I found a shelter for him, with windows that brought safety with freedom, a place that honored both protection and choice. I asked him to stay safe, though I knew his spirit was as wide as the open air. What he gave me, in return, was the gift of presence. His trust was not something I demanded, but something he offered, quietly, freely, and fully.

I don’t believe love is measured by how long we are allowed to be physically close. Sometimes, love is measured by its depth, by the way it roots itself into the heart, by the way it continues beyond time and space. My companion is no longer physically at my side, but his presence lingers in the dust, in the sunlight, in the stillness of a starry night.

Some bonds are beyond telling, and yet they live on in every whisper of the wind.
